In the spirit of strengthening cooperation between India and Angola, Indian Naval Ship INS Tarkash is making a good will visit to Luanda from 8-11 June 2017. The visit is part of the Overseas Deployment of the Western Fleet of the Indian Navy in Western Africa region.

During the visit, the Indian Naval Ship will have professional interaction with the Angolan Navy towards further enhancing cooperation between the two forces. In addition, calls on senior Government and naval authorities, sporting and cultural interactions and sharing of best practices, aimed at strengthening ties and mutual understanding between the two Navies, are also planned. As part of its benevolent activities, the ship's medical team will conduct a health camp for the needy. The visiting Indian Naval Ships are also likely to conduct exercises with the Angolan Navy, aimed at enhancing interoperability in communication as well as Search and Rescue procedures.  

Commissioned in 2012, INS Tarkash is a stealth frigate equipped with state-of-the-art weapons and sensors. The Mission is commanded by Captain Rituraj Sahu and has 300 personnel on board.

Indian Naval assets have been increasingly deployed in recent times to address the main maritime concerns in international waters including piracy especially the east coast of Africa. In addition, the Indian Navy has also been involved in assisting countries in with Hydrographic Surveys, Search and Rescue and other capacity-building activities. 

The current visit of INS Tarkash seeks to enhance maritime cooperation between the Indian Navy and the Angolan Navy. It will further bolster the strong bonds of friendship between India and Angola, a valued and special partner and contribute to security and stability in this vital part of the world.

The Naval Ship will be open for visit by members of the public.  The timings will be from 1200 - 1700 hrs on Saturday, 10 June 2017 at Luanda Port.  Interested persons are requested to register by 7 June 2017 by sending their details mentioning name, identity number (passport/resident card), mobile number and vehicle number to the email ID: pol.luanda@mea.gov.in.  Children are especially welcome.
